Canada – Painted Forest
60,035 hectares - Completed: March, 2023

Check out our video for a high-level overview of the steps used to develop a HRIS inventory of the Painted Forest project.

Established in 2021, Perimeter Forest acquires and invests in Canada’s industrial timberlands. Its investments reflect a long term perspective, while leaving forestlands healthier and more resilient.

In collaboration with Perimeter, Tesera developed a new forest inventory geodatabase over the productive forest portions of the mixedwood Painted Forest in the central Algoma District (about 80 km NE of Sault Saint Marie, Ontario).

The HRIS project delivered a geospatial polygon dataset (and interactive Map Viewer) that significantly improves the resolution and accuracy of forest landscape and stand level attribute data. These inventory data improvements will also enable the development of sustainable forestland management plans and activities, carbon credits (sequestration and abatement), optimize harvest scheduling plans and activities. It will also support watershed protection, enhance biodiversity, wildlife corridors and protect endangered and vulnerable species.

“Perimeter Forest has had a very positive experience working with Tesera. They are a very experienced and efficient team that has delivered a high-quality inventory product on time and on budget. This inventory now provides us with an unparalleled resolution of our forestland attributes that we can apply to our forest and biodiversity enhancement activities and achieve a level of transparency for our carbon projects that is nothing short of impressive. We look forward to continue to work with Tesera and HRIS as it allows Perimeter Forest to achieve our goals.”
