Our approach includes the collection and analysis of several data sources including ground plots, remote sensing data (LiDAR), radar systems, imaging (multispectral, thermal or hyperspectral sensors), aerial photography, photogrammetry and/or satellite imagery.
Improving Forest Inventories
Over the past decade, the rapid pace of technology has been astonishing. These advancements have enabled the development of a new class of Enhanced Forest Inventory (EFI) solutions. They employ various combinations of ground plots, remote sensed and satellite data, AI/Machine Learning, advanced statistical analytics and other technologies. EFI can produce more timely, accurate, comprehensive and scalable forest inventory data.
Legacy Forest Inventory Methods
Historically, legacy forest inventory methodologies have relied on human-based interpretation, classification and assessment of aerial photography (combined with ground plots and related imagery). Forest stand boundaries were manually interpreted and delineated (digitized) to produce forest inventory cover maps.
These manual approaches are not timely to produce, not scalable, not accurate, not easy to update, and are not efficient or reliable.
